Mexico stopper Rafael Marquez has declared that he will speak to Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola after the World Cup to discuss his future.
With Yaya Toure seemingly destined to leave the club, the 31-year-old Mexican may enjoy greater opportunities to play for the Spanish champions as a holding midfielder - a role he is currently excelling in with El Tri in South Africa.
He now intends to speak with the Catalan coach to explore his playing options next season as he he feels he is in good enough shape to play regularly in the twilight of his career.
"I am in good physical condition, more comfortable, now I have the position of protecting the back four and in the advanced role I have better options to give passes," he is quoted as saying by Sport.
"I enjoy more because I am more involved in this area, the effort is greater, but it's where I play now and we must continue.
"I won't be wasting time in the future. I have to talk to Pep, as it is true that last year I played few minutes, but I'm very calm."
